Women 2 Women grants $75k to Church World Service Greensboro to sustain a continuum of care for vulnerable refugee and immigrant women in Guilford County through intensive case management and referral-based navigation support. This grant will provide navigation support for 200 refugee and immigrant women and children, as well as provide intensive case management for 27 immigrant women and children. Women 2 Women grants $75k to Guilford County Partnership for Children in a first-of-its-kind childcare expansion grant program for the county. The expansion grants will be awarded to licensed childcare facilities that have a 4- or 5-star license to help increase access to high-quality licensed childcare in Guilford County for infants and toddlers (0-24 months). Women 2 Women grants $45k to A Simple Gesture - Greensboro to establish a system for regular donations of food that hasn't been served across Guilford County Schools, delivering it to recreation centers and other locations with after-school programs. When mothers pick up their children, they can also pick up a nutritious dinner at no cost. The project gets wholesome food to those who need it and keeps this food out of the trash. Women 2 Women grants $30k to The Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship to support female food entrepreneurs by providing legal certified kitchen space to prepare and package food products for sale; expanding technical assistance to help women, minorities and refugees who are disadvantaged, unemployed or underemployed develop skills that move them toward economic self-sufficiency in the food industry; providing ServSafe Certification Scholarships. Women 2 Women grants $30k to The Servant Center to provide transitional shelter and medical respite to women experiencing homelessness, disabled and/or too medically fragile to recover on the street. This project will create four rooms (2 single occupancy and 2 doubles) for women needing transitional housing and case management services designed to transition to permanent housing; upfit space for an on-site salon offering services to female residents, lending to their overall wellness and recovery; purchase personal items needed while in transitional shelter including towels, linens, hygiene products, etc. Learn more: theservantcenter.org
Women 2 Women grants $30k to Youth Focus, Inc. for its Act Together shelter, the only emergency shelter for youth in Guilford County that provides housing for youth ages 11-17 who need safe shelter for a wide variety of reasons mostly tied to instability in the home. Youth can stay up to 90 days. The shelter serves 110 youth and includes provision of all basic needs, coordinated case management, educational services, essential mental and physical healthcare services, and linkage of families to community resources. Women 2 Women grants $25k to Cone Health to create a scholarship fund to pay for virtual medical visits for 200 uninsured elementary students, especially from immigrant families. Telehealth medical care is now available in 26 schools and connects students to doctors using digital tools operated by specially trained full time telepresenters in each school. This project removes the cost barrier, ensuring timely care without burdening families or requiring working mothers to miss work. Women 2 Women grants $20k to She Built This City to support a cohort of 27 women to complete a workforce training program, complete with meals and childcare services. The programming provides weekly themed lessons in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting trades, tools, safety, soft skills, hands-on workshops, construction math, and industry-recognized certifications OSHA 10 & CPR/First Aid. Cohorts engage in construction site visits & community build projects. Graduates earn a Department of Labor Pre- Apprenticeship certificate from NC Apprenticeship & NC Community College Systems. Women 2 Women grants $20k to Every Baby Guilford, Inc. to provide prenatal care to 260 uninsured participants who do not qualify for Medicaid. Babies born without the benefit of prenatal care are three times more likely premature, which highly impacts infant mortality rates. The program partners with seven obstetrical providers to ensure that all women have access to prenatal care regardless of insurance status. Referrals are made to our obstetrical partners and the program pays a flat rate of $500 for antepartum care and the first ultrasound. Learn more: everybabyguilford.org
Women 2 Women grants $10k to Children's Law Center of Central North Carolina to provide 45 children with attorneys who advocate in their best interest and serve as the eyes and ears of the court. These attorneys make unbiased recommendations to judges, which help children and parents build healthy, safe relationships. Our work involves reviewing criminal, civil, medical, and school records, as well as meeting with children, parents, teachers, pediatricians, social workers, and extended family members.
